Bayer Leverkusen star Nathan Tella seeks to join the Super Eagles' replete offensive line and announces his desire to play for Nigeria in a recent interview.
Bayer Leverkusen star Nathan Tella has declared his intent to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite being eligible for the England national team.
The 24-year-old was born in England but failed to record an appearance for any of the Three Lions’ age grades. With his career currently on an upward trajectory, Tella thinks about national team football and has registered his desire to wear green and white, representing his country of descent.

Super Eagles: Iwobi and Moffi return, Bashiru a new addition as Peseiro calls up 25 players for Saudi Arabia and Mozambique friendly games
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa still missing as Peseiro calls up 25 players for Saudi Arabia and Mozambique friendlies in Portugal.
What Tella said
The winger is not one to shy away from his Nigerian heritage, and in a recent interview with German publication Bild, he announced that he is on the lookout for a call from Jose Peseiro.
“I’ve always said for the last three or four years that Nigeria is a big part of my life—even though I’ve been an ‘England boy’ from London all my life,” Tella told Bild.
“If I got the chance to play for Nigeria, I would be more than happy and accept it. I’ve already told my parents and friends that I would do that.
“You’re not just nominated like that. You have to work for it and earn it. I want to prove myself here if I get the chance to play. I want to develop further and help the team and the club; if a call comes for an international call-up, that would be a bonus.”
What Super Eagles could get from Tella
Tella came through the ranks at Arsenal before joining Southampton. He struggled to get a foothold with the Saints as a shoo-in starter, but everything changed for his career with a loan move to Burnley.
Under Vincent Kompany, Tella truly blossomed. He scored 17 goals (most for his team) in the championship to help the Clarets win the competition and consequently gain promotion. He was also named in the EFL and PFA teams of the season for the English second-tier league.
His performances earned him a sizable €23.3 million fee to Bayer Leverkusen in the German top flight where he teams up with a player who recently fulfilled his Super Eagles dream, Victor Boniface.
