Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony ‘Teddy’ Akumu could be ditching Japanese side Sagan Tosu soon after it was revealed that he has found a new club.
Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony ‘Teddy’ Akumu is close to ditching Japan J-League side Sagan Tosu after reportedly landing a new club.
This was revealed by Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat who has kept faith with the midfielder despite enduring a nightmare spell in Japan.
Akumu signed for Sagan Tosu in December 2022 after staying without a club for sometime following his release by South African giants Kaizer Chief and hopes of turning a new page quickly evaporated when he was turned into a bench warmer.

FOOTBALL Teddy Akumu discusses importance of Malawi Four Nations Tournament to Harambee Stars
The former Gor Mahia midfielder has described the upcoming Four Nations Malawi tournament as a priviledge for Harambee Stars to be a part of.
Things turned from bad to worse as the midfielder was consistently left out of the Sagan Tosu squad and he has only featured for the team five times, all in cup games, despite the side playing 41 games since he signed.
He now looks to have found an escape route although the identity of his next club is yet to be revealed.
“Teddy has always been in training and I know now that he has a new club out of Africa which he is close to signing for but it is up to him to tell you,” Firat told the media on Tuesday.

FOOTBALL Harambee Stars: Firat laments collapse of tactical plan due to absence of key defenders
Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat is disappointed that he will not implement a new formation since a large number of his experienced defenders are out of the Four Nations Tournament.
Despite calls to drop Akumu over his lack of minutes at club level, Firat has kept faith in Akumu who is one of his three trusted midfielders alongside Kenneth Muguna and Richard Odada.
The tactician has given no indication of that changing at the Four Nations tournament, backing the midfielder to deliver in Malawi.
“He is never a problem, he is a top professional and he is taking very good care of his physical department. He also has experience so it will not be a problem,” added Firat.
