Anthony ‘Teddy’ Akumu has found a new club in Iran seven months after departing Japan's Sagan Tosu.

Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony ‘Teddy’ Akumu has found a new home seven months after leaving Japan's J-League side, Sagan Tosu.

This move marks a significant step for Akumu who had a challenging stint in Japan.

Akumu signed with Sagan Tosu in December 2022 after a period without a club following his release by South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs.

Despite the initial optimism, his time in Japan was far from ideal. The midfielder struggled for game time, making only five appearances, all in cup competitions, while the team played 41 matches since his arrival.

The versatile defensive midfielder, who also excels as a central defender, has now signed a year-long contract with Iranian side Kheybar Khorramabad as a free agent.

This opportunity presents a chance for Akumu to reignite his career and showcase his talent on a fresh platform.

Akumu's career began with Kenyan powerhouse Gor Mahia, where he quickly made a name for himself.

In 2014, he took his talents to Al Khartoum in Sudan, and after a year, he moved to Zambia’s Zesco United.

His four-year tenure at Zesco United was marked by consistent performances which eventually earned him a move to Kaizer Chiefs in 2020.

Despite the setbacks in Japa Akumu's resilience and dedication remain undeterred.

He has consistently shown his prowess on the international stage, being part of the Kenyan team that won the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and the 2024 Four-Nations Tournament in Malawi.
