Mikel Arteta has revealed that his Arsenal side had just one job to do last season in the Premier League - win it.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is still hurting from not winning the Premier League last season. 

Arteta and his Arsenal side came close to the Premier League title for the first time since 2004.

The Gunners were at top of the table for over 240 days but lost the title to an excellent Manchester City side. 

Arsenal’s Arteta still in pain 

Arteta revealed duringban interview with Spanish outfit Marca while on holiday in Spain.

Speaking on the painful collapse in the final weeks of the season, Arteta noted that the Gunners had just one job last season - to win the league.

However, while he believes his young team still achieved a lot by pushing City to their limits, according to him, it still hurts that his team failed to win it in the end. 

“The feat was to win it,” Arteta told Marca. “This is Arsenal and the level of demand is high.”

“To this day, it still hurts me deeply not having won the Premier after spending 10 months fighting with City. But that's the sport.”

“That said, what has been achieved with such a young team [Arsenal had the youngest squad in the Premier] is worthwhile,” he added. “That is clear to me too.”

Despite the disappointment, Arteta’s Arsenal finished second on the table, seven points adrift the champions, City.

In addition to that, the Gunners returned to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in seven years.
