While Arne Slot’s men are expected to win the Premier League title, the Cottagers could thwart the Merseyside club’s prospects of emulating two Arsenal sides.

Liverpool travel to Fulham on Sunday aiming to achieve a rare feat in English football history: going an entire top-flight season unbeaten away from home.

With the Premier League title within their grasp, Liverpool currently hold a significant 11-point lead at the top of the table after Arsenal’s draw at Everton on Saturday with just eight matches remaining (seven for Mikel Arteta’s men).

Their only league defeat this season was at Anfield against Nottingham Forest. On the road, however, their record stands at 10 wins and five draws from 15 matches.

If Arne Slot’s men avoid defeat in their remaining four away fixtures against Fulham, Leicester City, Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion they will become only the fifth side to complete an entire top-flight season without an away loss.

Previous English clubs to avoid away losses

Manchester United

Manchester United were the most recent side to achieve this in the 2020-21 season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Despite finishing second in the league, their unbeaten away record, consisting of 12 wins and seven draws from 19 matches, was a notable achievement.

That United side also set a Premier League record for the longest unbeaten away run, stretching to 29 games between February 2020 and September 2021, surpassing Arsenal’s previous record.

Notably, they also recovered a remarkable 28 points from losing positions in away games that season, the highest tally in Premier League history.

Arsenal (twice)

Arsenal have achieved this twice in the Premier League era. The 2003-04 "Invincibles" famously went unbeaten both home and away, winning 11 and drawing eight of their away matches.

Thierry Henry’s exceptional goalscoring form spearheaded their title win. Before that campaign, Arsene Wenger’s 2001-02 Arsenal side also completed an entire campaign unbeaten away, winning 14 and drawing five.

That season also saw them set a Premier League record by scoring in every league game.

Preston North End

The first team to ever achieve an unbeaten league season, both home and away, was Preston North End in the 1888-89 Football League.

While the league comprised only twelve teams, Preston were dominant, finishing eleven points clear and showcasing an exceptional goal difference (+59).

Marco Silva's men have an outside chance of finishing in the coveted top-five positions, though the West London club must supplant four higher-placed sides — Manchester City, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brentford — and make up a six-point deficit to rise from ninth.

The Cottagers have won six of their 15 fixtures on home soil, drawing five and falling to four defeats entering gameweek 31.

Fulham, who have won two of their previous three at Craven Cottage, either side of a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace, aim to make it three wins from four in front of their supporters at Liverpool's expense.
