The Gunners want to have the statue in place to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Invincible season
Arsenal are set to honour long-serving coach Arsene Wenger with a statue that is soon to be unveiled at The Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have been working on the specially commissioned bronze statue for some time with a view to having it in place to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Invincible season.
According to The Athletic, the first sight of the completed statue will be released via a digital unveiling, accessible for all to see.
In the coming months, Wenger will attend a private ceremony, with family, friends and players from the Invincibles, who are invited to a special celebration.
Wenger was Arsenal’s manager for 22 years, and the Invincible achievement of 2003-04, when his team went unbeaten for a complete league season, remains a touchstone for him and the club.
Wenger’s departure from Arsenal in 2018 was painful for him, in the manner of the ending being taken out of his hands and announced abruptly before the end of the season.
He chose to stay away from the club in the aftermath. Obtaining his blessing for the statue and its unveiling was a delicate process.
A significant step in terms of reconciliation happened last season when he came back to watch a match at the Emirates for the first time in four and a half years. The homecoming was warm and bridges have been rebuilt.
The club are looking forward to honouring their legendary manager, to accompany the statues of Dennis Bergkamp, Tony Adams, Thierry Henry and Herbert Chapman which are already in place.
