What happened
PSG are set to play the Gunners in their second game of the new Champions League format at the Emirates Stadium but will be without their top goal contributor in Ligue 1 this season, Ousmane Dembele.
It was earlier reported by Fabrice Hawkins that the 27-year-old winger was set to be suspended for the game, after his altercation with manager Luis Enrique following the 3-1 victory over Rennes.
The report has now been confirmed, as Dembele was a conspicuous omission from PSG’s team sheet for the trip to the Emirates.
What Luis Enrique said
The Spanish tactician was unavoidably questioned about the decision in a press conference today ahead of their clash against Mikel Arteta's team, and he immediately played it down, stating that Dembele’s presence does not make them unbeatable.
“It looks like we never lost a game with Dembéle... no, we lost against Newcastle, Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Barça at home,” he said. “If someone doesn’t comply with team rules, it means he’s not ready for a key week like this one.”
He told reporters the decision was made over an issue of respect but maintained that there was no fight between himself and the player.
“I won’t make a saga out of it... there was simply an issue with respect to his obligations towards the team. I want the best for the team and I left him out. There was no fight between me and Dembélé.”
