Aubameyang visits the Emirates stadium with Chelsea for the first time since departing lasts eason.

Mikel Arteta has expressed gratitude to Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang for his service to Arsenal despite his relationship with the Gabonese player turning sour towards the end of his time in North London.

Aubameyang moved to Barcelona on a free transfer after both player and club mutually agreed to terminate his contract, before joining current employers Chelsea.

The gunners will be facing their bitter London rivals tonight, with Aubameyang, who has struggled to hit the ground running at the club, eager to show his worth against his former employers.

Speaking before the match, Arteta thanked Aubameyang for his contributions as player and captain while he was at the club.

"Let's say thank you, pay respect and gratitude for what he was,” the Spanish manager said, “He was an incredible player for us, scored a lot of goals, he was our captain, and he deserves that."

Arteta stripped Aubameyang of the Arsenal captaincy over disciplinary issues and the striker ended up leaving the club to join Barcelona in February 2022.

After an impressive spell in La Liga, Aubameyang returned to the Premier League ahead of the current campaign as he signed for Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea.

Aubameyang scored 92 goals across 163 games for the Gunners between 2018 and 2022 and won the FA Cup during his time in north London.

Quizzed if he would remember Aubameyang for how his time at Arsenal ended, Arteta added: ‘Say thank you and be grateful.’
