Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted Emile Smith Rowe needs 'clarity' in order to make him grow into a given position if he is to fulfill his undoubted potential at the club.
Smith Rowe, who returned to full fitness in February after sitting the first half of the season out with a groin injury, recently admitted that the current season is “the worst of his career” in an interview with Sky Sports.
The England international had earned plenty of plaudits since cementing his place as a regular starter with a man-of-the-match performance against Chelsea on Boxing Day in 2020, adding creative spark to the side with his off-the-ball movement, ability to play one-twos, drift between the lines and combine well with his fellow attacking young trident of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
He earned a new contract and the coveted number 10 shirt in the summer of 2021, and followed it up with 10 goals and two assists in the Premier League last season, mostly playing as a left winger or a number 10.
