Premier League club Aston Villa could pull off a coup with the signing of one of Real Madrid's stars this summer
Premier League club Aston Villa are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio whose contract runs out at the end of the season.
Asensio nearing end of Real Madrid contract
Asensio has been unable to agree to a new contract at Real Madrid and could be available for a free transfer when his current deal ends in June 2023, making him a prime target for teams looking to bolster their squads ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Aston Villa have made some smart moves in recent times, including signing former Villarreal manager Unai Emery and Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany, who will both be familiar with Asensio having spent some time in Spain as the Real Madrid forward’s opponents.
Both Emery and Alemany would jump at the chance to sign Asesnio, with the director having considered signing the Los Blancos winger for Real Madrid’s archrivals Barcelona.
Asensio could be tempted by Aston Villa offer
Asensio could be tempted to make the move to the Premier League after failing to find his best form with Real Madrid this season after falling in the pecking order at the LaLiga giants.
The 27-year-old forward has only started 16 games in all competitions this season for Real Madrid and has been outspoken about his struggles with not playing enough minutes in Madrid, leading many to believe that he could be on the move when his contract ends.
The Premier League club could also be willing to offer Asensio a vastly improved financial offer compared to his current Real Madrid deal, or indeed any deal that Los Blancos might offer the Spain international to renew his contract at the end of the season.
Currently, Asesnio is believed to be intent on staying at Real Madrid, but the situation could change quickly if Aston Villa apply more pressure.
