England’s 10 men held on to start their qualification campaign for UEFA Euro 2024 with a 2-1 over Italy.
The Italian gaffer told reporters before the match that Retegui has qualities not previously available to the Italy squad, even saying he had qualities like Batistuta.
"We’ve been following Retegui for a while," Mancini revealed, per AS.
"He’s been playing regularly in the Argentine league for two seasons. He has qualities that we currently lack.
“I can say that he looks like Batistuta when he arrived in Italy. He may need some time to get comfortable, but it won’t be long. He is very smart.“
Italy will face Malta tomorrow in the second game of their qualifying campaign, and the European Champions will look to right the wrongs of their first game against England as they continue the journey towards defending their title.
