Yanga 2 - 0 Real De Bamako
Young Africans SC picked up their second win in the CAF Confederations cup group stage following their 2-0 win over Mali’s Real de Bamako on Wednesday, at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium.
Fiston Kalala Mayele and Jesus Moloko scored in either half to seal Yanga’s win in a match that also marked the return of combative holding midfielder Khalid Aucho.
The Uganda Cranes assistant captain had not played for his side since the 1-1 draw against the same opposition in Mali, when he was stretchered off in the 45th minute.
However, the 29-year-old featured for the entire second half on Wednesday as he helped to break down Bamako’s attack in the midfield.
Aucho says he feels great to return; “It felt great to return to the pitch, we all usually want to play as often.”
“Sometimes it’s beyond your control, but the most important thing is that we won the game.”
“I also think our momentum as a team is fantastic, everyone gives it their best, and that’s how we have been able to grind out results.”
The win took Yanga to seven points after four games played, three points behind table leaders US Monastir and also two points ahead of third-placed TP Mazembe, who lost to Monastir on Wednesday.
In the NBC Premier League, Aucho’s side also holds a healthy eight-point gap ahead of arch-rivals Simba SC.
Next up for Yanga is a home league game against Geita Gold; now that ‘Dakitari wa mpira’ is back on his feet, he will be expected to lead ‘Teamu ya Wanainchi in their quest to retain the Tanzanian Premier League.
