For two back-to-back seasons, the Tanzanian giants have managed to keep arch-rivals Simba at bay, claiming every major trophy on the domestic scene.
Retaining a treble amidst a tight continental campaign schedule is no mean feat, and Young Africans deserve all the plaudits coming their way.
For two back-to-back seasons, the Tanzanian giants have managed to keep arch-rivals Simba at bay, claiming every major trophy on the domestic scene.
Uganda Cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho who has played a pivotal role for the yellow and green army in both seasons, including a continental run, says the team’s success has been down to hard work and commitment from everyone at the club.
“Yes, we’ve done well, but it hasn’t been easy; hard work and commitment from all of us has got us this far; the urge to keep winning and becoming better each game was the driving factor,” Aucho told Pulse Sports.
“We encouraged each other to be more ambitious on the continent; that’s why we went all the way; we are a team that works as a unit and are very supportive of each other.”
Away from the dominance on the pitch, ‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi’ was also involved in a protracted transfer battle with its player at the time Feisal Fei Toto Salum.
The former was frozen out of the squad for six months until Tanzanian President Hassan Suluhu Hassan called for the impasse to end.
Fei Toto was then allowed to switch to money bags Azam FC on 9th June.
However, Aucho says he enjoyed his time with the creative midfield gem and currently terms him the best Tanzanian player.
“He is the best Tanzanian player now, very talented, I enjoyed playing alongside him, and I wish him all the best at his new club,” he noted.
With the departure of head coach Nabi Nasreddine, and the start of the new season edging closer, it remains to be seen who the Tunisian replacement will be.
