Yanga Africans have commenced their preparations for the highly-anticipated CAF Confederation Cup final first leg against Algeria's USM Alger.
The clash is set to unfold this Sunday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, and Yanga is leaving no stone unturned in their quest for continental glory.
Yanga players are back on the training ground after enjoying a one-day rest following their successful elimination of Singida Big Stars in the Azam Federation Cup semi-final.
The hard-fought 1-0 victory, secured last Sunday at the Liti Stadium in Singida, ensured their spot in the final match, set to take place mid-next month against Azam FC at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.
Acknowledging the challenging fixtures ahead, coach Nasreddine Nabi remained optimistic expressing his satisfaction with their fitness levels, affirming that there are no injury concerns within the squad.
"I am very happy to take this team to the final. We are the first Tanzanian team to do so, and it is a huge achievement for us,” said a confident Nabbi.
“Now, we will try to win this Cup," added the Tunisian who is thrilled at the prospect of claiming another title this season, having already secured the Tanzania Premier League title and the Community Shield.
Neither Yanga nor Algers has ever won an interclub title; hence this is a golden chance for both of them to put their hands on it and make a new history that will stand forever.
In a boost to the team's preparations, midfielder Khalid Aucho has re-joined training after missing the game against Singida.
Aucho's return adds depth and experience to Yanga's midfield, and his presence will be invaluable in the final match against USM Alger.
But, Nabbi chose to shine the spotlight on leading striker Fiston Mayele, who played a pivotal role in their victory during the return tie in South Africa against Marumo Gallants.
"I am really happy for him and how he is performing. I signed him from AS Vita, and I am glad he has repaid the faith I had in him,” he said.
“He has a year left on his contract, and of course, there is so much interest in him, but hopefully, he can stay," expressed Nabbi.
Mayele, alongside Gallant’s striker Ranga Chvaviro are the current top scorers of the Confederations Cup with six goals apiece; with Mayele better placed to clinch the golden boot should he score in either leg of the final.
“I am happy to be one of the top scorers in the Confederation Cup because previously, I only managed to score three or four goals and had never netted six goals; I am grateful for my achievement this season,” Mayele said.
The Congolese striker is in the race to win two golden boot awards this campaign as he is too close to clinching the Premier League’s top scorer prize as he lately enjoys 16 goals to his name with two matches to spare.
