Leading Tanzanian Pay-TV broadcast giants Azam Media under their flagship brand Azam TV, have hit the Kenyan football market.

Azam TV made the revelation in a brief video shared on their social media platforms in which they advertised two Kenyan Premier League games, the Meshemeji Derby and Kairobangi Sharks against Tusker FC.

Pulse Sports reliably understands that the deal, which only covers the two games, is to the tune of USD 80,000, approximately Ugx 296M, which will be shared between the four clubs and the Federation Football Kenya (FKF).

In 2020 the Football Kenya Federation unveiled StarTimes as the league broadcaster in a deal worth $110M for seven years.

Still, StarTimes cancelled the contract a year later, accusing FKF of poorly executing their agreement.

Ababu Namwamba, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts, raised the hopes for many in December 2022 when he revealed he had held negotiations with South African Pay TV giants Supersport to return to Kenya five years after they left.

The talks have since gone cold, with Ababu Namwamba silent on how far he has reached with negotiating with the pay tv giants.

The Meshemeji Derby is a fixture between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, a traditional rivalry that has lasted for nearly 70 years. This season's fixture is expected to take place on 13th April 2023.

K'Ogalo, coached by former Uganda Cranes head coach Johnathan Mckinstry lead the 18-team log with 63 points, two behind second-placed Tusker FC after 29 games.
