FOOTBALL Aziz Kayondo promoted to Spanish side's senior team

The former Vipers SC star spent the latter part of the 2022/23 campaign in the side's B team, along with compatriot and KCCA FC academy graduate, Ibrahim Juma.

Uganda Cranes left-back Abdul Aziz Kayondo has been promoted to the senior team of Spanish outfit, Club Deportivo Leganes.

The former Vipers SC star spent the latter part of the 2022/23 campaign in the side's B team, along with compatriot and KCCA FC academy graduate, Ibrahim Juma.

Leganes currently trades in the second division of Spanish football, the Segunda and finished 14th on the 22-team table, having accumulated 53 points.

Kayondo debuted for the club as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv in a preseason friendly.

He is expected to be involved again as Leganes takes on Spanish Laliga outfit Getafe, in another friendly encounter.

Before joining Leganes B, Kayondo featured for Major League Soccer Next Pro side Real Monarchs in 2022.

That was immediately after he departed Vipers having guided them to one Uganda Premier League title and as many Uganda Cups.
