Azteks Soccer Academy is a testament to the power of passion and dedication in nurturing young talent in sports.
The academy, registered with the Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA), and its commitment to grooming talent from the grassroots level up to 18 years of age has produced some of the best women's football players in Uganda.
"We are trying to change the narrative around girls' football and proving that girls can excel in any sport they set their minds to and believe that can happen with the work that we do," said Kide Yosia, the team manager.
Structurally the academy is headed by Moses Ayazika, the president; Franco Ayazika, who is in charge of the girl's affairs and Kise Yosia, the team manager.
"The girls are training hard, and their coaches are dedicated to teaching the youngsters everything they need to know to succeed in the tournament and, ultimately, the sport," noted Yosia.
Players such as Shakira Nankwanga of Kawempe Muslim and Nansamba Bridget Yuko, a goalkeeper at Rines Women's football club and the U17 level with the national team, are some players who have come through the academy.
Their dedication to developing talent has not gone unnoticed, with the academy recently preparing for the U14 Futsal Championship organized by the Football Association of Uganda (FAU), scheduled to start on 16th May 2023.
Despite facing setbacks due to some players being with their schools preparing for the USSSA National Championship, team manager Yosia Kide believes that the girls are training well as they prepare for the tournament.
As they continue to prepare for the U14 Futsal Championship, the academy hopes to attract more players from the schools during the holidays to strengthen the team.
With their passion, dedication, and hard work, the Azteks Soccer Academy hopes to continue establishing its roots in the game and develop the women's game.
