Vipers made their maiden CAF Champions League group stage appearance last season after successfully eliminating Central African Republic giant Olympique Real de Bangui and Democratic Republic of Congo champions TP Mazembe in the preliminary qualification rounds.
The Venoms were humbled by continental giants; Horoya AC, Raja Casablanca, and Tanzania giants Simba SC as they salvaged only one point and a goal.
