Up until this match, the Cityzens have maintained a 100 per cent record in the league, romping all that came their way, and despite seemingly starting a comeback against Wolves with a Julian Alvarez equaliser, a Hwang Hee-Chan strike confirmed the defeat.

How it happened

Manchester City came into the game off the back of their first defeat of the season, as Newcastle knocked them out of the EFL Cup midweek.

Guardiola had to watch his team from the stands, as he was serving a suspension for yellow card accumulation.

City dominated possession from the start, but Wolves’s game plan was clear, to hit their visitors in transition, and the ploy proved successful.

Gary O’Neil’s side took the lead as early as the 13th minute, after a blistering run by Pedro Neto on the right flank. The Portuguese’s attempted cutback at the end of the run was turned into the net by Ruben Dias, 1-0 Wolves.

They kept the lead throughout the first-half, defending well and breaking with purpose. In the second-half, however, they lost their advantage after a brilliant Alvarez freekick in the 58th minute.

Wolves shocked Guardiola’s side once more in the 66th minute when Hee-Chang completed a sweeping team move. Manchester City pressed for an equaliser, but the West Midlands team held on to maximum points.
