Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos finally fulfilled his promise of qualifying South Africa for the Nations cup for the first time since 2019.

The 1996 AFCON champions sealed the spot with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Liberia away in Monrovia on Tuesday evening.

Zakhele Lepasa, on loan at Supersport from Orlando Pirates and Mihlali Mayambela, scored in either half for the rainbow nation, while William Jebor scored the consolation for Liberia.

Bafana set the ball rolling when Lepasa controlled the ball in the box and slotted home in the 19th minute to give the visitors the lead.

Still, Liberia made amends through Jebor, whose long-range drive in the 35th minute went past a helpless Ronwen Williams to level matters and head to the break level.

The second half saw Liberia fight for dear life, but Broos' charges stood firm and even doubled the lead through Mayambela in the 54th minute and were able to see out the game and claim maximum points.

The win takes South Africa to the second spot on four points after three games played in group K.

However, with only Morocco and Liberia left in the group due to Zimbabwe's suspension,

It means the Atlas Lions and South Africa seal the two spots available while Liberia remains bottom of the group on a single point.
