It was a mixed bag for Ivorians in the Coupe de France as Bailly got sent off while Fofana inspired
Ivorian defender Eric Bailly suffered the ignominy of an early bath as Olympique Marseille booked a place in the next round of the Coupe de France while his countryman Seko Fofana got on the scoresheet to push Lens past Linas Montlhery.
Marseille 2-0 Hyeres.
It took only 15 minutes of play for Bailly to get on the wrong side of the referee and receive his marching orders via a straight red card when Marseille took on Hyeres in the Coupe De France round of 64.
Marseille recovered well from the early setback and convincingly beat the minnows 2-0 thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng either side of half time.
The win saw Marseille qualify for the round of 32 where they join PSG and others in the quest for the cup.
Lens 2-0 Linas Montlhery
Seko Fofana gave an exemplary cameo performance in Lens’ 2-0 win over Linas Montlhery after he came on after the hour to score the opening goal to galvanise Lens to a comfortable victory.
Lens eventually went 2-0 up thanks to a goal by Fofana’s fellow substitute Florian Sotoca which was also assisted by the Ivorian midfielder.
Lens and Fofana continue their great form that has the club unbeaten in 9 games in all competitions and now also into the round of 32 of the Coupe de France.
Other Coupe de France round of 64 games
In other Coupe de France action, Lyon overcame a stubborn Metz 2-1 thanks to an unfortunate own goal by Guinea Biassau’s Fali Cande in the 77th minute.
The defeat was Metz’ first in four matches against Lyon and effectively dumps them out of the Coupe De France
