Bamba Dieng's move to Lorient has been cancelled after he failed his medical
Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng has failed his medical at French Club Lorient, which has ended a possible move away from Marseille for the 22-year-old striker.
Bamba Dieng fails medicals again
This is the second window in which Dieng will fail a medical, after having his summer deadline day transfer to Nice cancelled after the club felt unassured about a lingering knee problem.
Dieng had been poised to move to Leeds in the summer, and then to Nice after a dramatic turnaround, but neither move came to fruition, leaving the Senegalese stuck in Marseille, unwanted and desperate for a move.
Now Dieng’s effors to leave Marseille have been hampered again by the same problem as Lorient also have doubts about the same knee problem, and have pulled a plug on a possible deal.
Dieng’s collapsed deal spells trouble for Moffi
Marseille initially wanted to use Dieng as a bargaining chip to seal a transfer for Lorient’s Nigerian forward Terem Moffi, but after the Super Eagles striker turned down a move to the Velodrome, Lorient moved to sign Dieng in a separate deal which has now been cancelled.
With Lorient unable to secure Dieng, it is unlikely that they will be willing to do a deal with any club for Moffi, who has his heart set on joining Nice.
Dieng was seen as a direct replacement for Moffi, but with his deal falling apart at the last hurdle, Lorient will struggle to find a suitable replacement for their top scorer this season with few days left until the end of the wintre transfer window.
Dieng who has struggled for game time at Masrseille this season was believed to be desperate for a move and will now be hoping that rumours of Leeds and Everton drawing up an approach for him are true, and that they do not hold the same concerns as Nice and Lorient.
