FKFPL: Bandari end season with victory over Posta Rangers

Festus Chuma 17:30 - 25.06.2023

Posta Rangers fail to overcome Bandari's resilient defense in last match of the season.

Bandari etched their name in the 2022/23 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) sixth position on Sunday afternoon, following their 2-1 win over Posta Rangers on the final day of the season.

Posta Rangers settled the quicker of the two teams and threatened an early goal through attackers Bernard Odiek  and Jackson Dwang, though neither was able to unduly trouble Bandari goalkeeper Joseph Ochuka.

The visitors gradually came into the game, with the lively Joe Waithera proving a thorn in the side of Rangers defense, but he was not able to get the better of Brian Obiero from numerous attempts.

Former Chemelil Sugar defender Kennedy Odiambo probably had Posta Rangers best effort on goal in the first half, with his 37th minute shot forcing Ochuka into a sharp save in which he could only parry the ball away from the target.

Bandari were then able to contain Posta Rangers and the score was 0-0 at the interval following a first-half which had a few chances.

The Mailmen got the second-half off to a flyer and immediately went on the attack and they broke the deadlock in the 50th minute courtesy of Kennedy Odhiambo who capitalized on Elvis Osok's well delivered cross.

Posta Rangers sat back to defend their slim lead but they were punished at the hour mark by Hassan Abdalah composed finish into the bottom left corner of the net from inside the area.

Two minutes later, Joe Waithera doubled their advantage with a volley after connecting a  Shashiri Nahimana pass to make it 2-0.

Bandari had a chance to extend their lead  but Piosta Ranger keeper Brian Obiero produced a fine save to deny Fidel Oringa.

The introduction of Caleb Olilo in the 74th minute sparked the hosts into life and he nearly pulled one back with a header from a Swaleh Pamba delivery from a corner.

Posta Rangers played the majority of their football inside the Dockers half in the remaining part of the match, however, Twahir Muhidin’s side showcased stellar defending in keeping the Mailmen at an arm’s length.
