OPINION: Kenya must invest in youth and grassroots football to become a regular World Cup and AFCON side. This is why
If Harambee Stars is to qualify for its first ever World Cup and always go far at the AFCON, this is why it must invest in youth and grassroots football.
“We have five very good youth players already training with the first team. Any time, any one of them can play. I hope to use two or three players for the first team next season.”
Muhiddin has expressed confidence that his side possesses a lot of resources to help make this a reality, given the side is owned by the Kenya Ports Authority, which effectively means it has the ends and the means to implement a successful youth programme.
“The resources are there. We just need to find the necessary support. We offered that idea to our sponsors and we promise that having worked with the youth during the early seventies, I know the benefits of developing the youth players from junior to senior level because most of the youth players I have trained have gone on to play for the national team and professionally.
Muhiddin will be taking the role of general manager for the 2023/2024 season, serving as both head coach and technical director.
