Hosted in Lagos by Ikorodu City and backed by Barcelona and Atletic Sant Just FC, the Lagos City Cup is underway and witnessed a goal-fest on the opening day with Lekki United and Future Pro taking over the show.
The maiden edition of the Lagos City Cup has kicked off with plenty of fanfare and goals in Lagos State with scouts from FC Barcelona hunting for talents.
Pulse Sports Nigeria was in attendance as the mini-competition to scout for Nigeria’s next big stars started on the best possible note.
The Lagos City Cup is backed by LaLiga champions Barcelona and Atleti Sant Just FC, the four-day event kicked off at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Saturday.
Goals galore at Barcelona-back City Cup
Sixteen clubs from Nigeria assembled to display the best of Nigerian talents at the Johnson Arena in Onikan.
There were a total of eight matches played on day one with 19 goals scored for an average of over 2.3 goals per game.
With all the teams delivering entertainment, the game between Lekki United and Future Pro left fans at the stadium purring.
Both clubs dished a six-goal thriller which proved to be the most productive and entertaining game of the day.
Future Pro looked to be sailing after taking a 2-0 lead, but Lekki pulled one back heading to the break.
Future restored their two-goal cushion in the second half with another well-take goal to make it 3-1.
However, the very youthful Lekki side dominated the second half and produced a sensational comeback with two superb goals to leave with a share of the spoils following a 3-3 result.
The tournament continues tomorrow with matchday two for all the teams.
