Barcelona will reportedly make a move for the former Paris Saint-Germain star this summer
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is once again considering a transfer for Marco Verratti, a seasoned midfielder who now plays for Al-Arabi in Qatar.
Barcelona renew interest in a familiar target.
Barcelona's interest in Verratti isn't new. The Catalans have long admired the Italian maestro, whom they targeted during the 2017 transfer window.
Back then, discussions appeared to be going well, with personal terms apparently agreed upon. However, their efforts were hindered by Paris Saint-Germain's staunch unwillingness to release their prized player.
Barcelona's pursuit of Verratti has been marked by a series of close calls. In 2017, PSG's daring move for Neymar complicated their plans even further, making a move virtually impossible.
Last summer, when Verratti’s time at PSG had come to an end, Barcelona's bids were turned down by PSG, prompting the midfielder to leave to the Qatari league.
Hindrances to move for Verratti
While PSG is no longer a barrier to Barcelona's pursuit of Verratti, other hurdles have arisen. Barcelona's reservations arise from the midfielder's high salaries and the level of football he has seen in the Qatari league. Regardless of his undoubted potential, Barcelona must carefully consider these aspects before making a move for Verratti.
As Barcelona considers a potential transfer for Verratti, the coming weeks could be critical. The midfielder's availability allows Barcelona to strengthen their roster, but the financial and sporting repercussions must be carefully considered.
