Barcelona made light work of a disappointing Real Betis side, strolling to a 4-0 win at Camp Nou to move 11 points clear of Real Madrid with 6 games left to play.
After the disappointing defeat to Rayo Vallecano in midweek, Barcelona responded in emphatic fashion in front of the home support inside Camp Nou, producing a dominant display to defeat Real Betis 4-0.
Andreas Christensen, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha got the goals as the Blaugrana moved one step closer to the LaLiga title.
Benzema's hat-trick fires Real Madrid past Almeria to keep pressure on Barcelona
How it happened
Xavi’s Barca showed attacking intent from the off, looking dangerous with Raphinha in particular looking very lively. It took the home side just 14 minutes to open the scoring. Raphinha sent in a delightful cross and Christensen was there to meet it with an accurate header.
Barca continued to dominate and things went from bad to worse for Betis as Edgar Gonzalez picked up two yellow cards within 10 minutes to receive his marching orders.
If the task was tough before, it was about to get tougher for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
Just moments after the sending-off, Robert Lewandowski doubled Barca’s advantage to realistically end the game as a contest.
If there were any lingering Betis hopes of pulling off a comeback, they were quickly diffused before the break when Raphinha struck a third for Xavi’s side to rub salt into the wounds of Pellegrini’s men.
Raphinha squandered a glorious opportunity to add a fourth for the hosts but the fourth goal eventually arrived when Guido Rodríguez’ suffered the ignominy of scoring an own goal.
The 4-goal cushion allowed Barca to introduce 15-year-old Lamine Yamal to become the club’s youngest-ever player to feature in LaLiga as they edge closer to wrapping up the title.
