Barcelona are reportedly contemplating firing their manager, Xavi Hernandez; however, it will cost them significantly.

Barcelona are reportedly considering parting ways with manager Xavi Hernandez; however, it will take a sizable outlay to lay off the World Cup winner.

Barcelona want to sack Xavi

As Pulse Sports reported, Barcelona have made a U-turn on their decision over the future of manager Xavi Hernandez and are expected to sack him at the end of the season.

The legendary retired Spanish midfielder led Barcelona to a league title last season but has done a poor job of defending it this season.

He faced internal and external pressure within the campaign, leading him to announce his resignation on January 27th.

Three months later, however, he walked back his decision after the club convinced him to stay beyond the season. President Joan Laporta and Xavi held a joint press conference to announce the decision.

He spoke glowingly of Xavi during the announcement, expressing his delight; however, according to recent reports, the tune has changed; the president is angry at Xavi over his comments on the club's financial status and is contemplating sacking him.

What it would cost

According to a report from Spanish publication MD, per GSFN, it will cost the Blaugrana €20 million to successfully sack Xavi. The money is the value of the remaining length of his contract; however, only a share of the amount will go to Xavi Hernandez, as part of the fee also factors in the settlement of his coaching staff.

Barcelona's dire financial situation is well publicised, and a €20 million outlay might prove too significant for them to part with to sack a coach.

As stated earlier, Xavi decided to resign at the end of the season, an outcome that would have cost Barcelona nothing. However, they convinced him to continue; walking back on that decision now will cost them significantly.
