Barcelona's Joan Laporta has confirmed that the club will be going all out to bring Lionel Messi back to the Spotify Camp Nou when his contract with PSG expires this season
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has promised that the club will enter direct talks with Argentine legend Lionel Messi with a summer move back to Catalonia on the cards for the current Paris Saint-Germain forward
Barcelona fans call for Messi signing
Lionel Messi’s current contract at PSG expires at the end of the current season, and he has been heavily linked with a move back to Barcelona, where he spent his formative years and 16 years of his senior career.
While celebrating the recent crowning of Barcelona as LaLiga champions, Blaugrana fans could be heard chanting Messi’s name as they called on the club to do everything in their power to bring the Argentine back to the Spotify Camp Nou, and Laporta appears to be thinking in line with the ideas of the spectators.
Laporta wants Messi at Barcelona
Speaking after the Espanyol game, Laporta said the club would do their best to re-sign Messi, noting the financial difficulty that the Argentine’s registration might cause.
“We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona.
“We are already working on next year’s team. We hope to be able to strengthen ourselves, we are in an austerity and viability plan. We want to have fair play. We are doing our homework and working hard.”
Messi has also been linked to a move to Saudi Arabia, with Al-Hilal rumoured to have offered the World Cup winner a mega deal which will make him the highest-paid player in the world, but Laporta is confident that Messi only wants to sign for Barcelona at this moment.
