Barca sack Xavi
The Blaugrana have announced today via their official channels that they have parted ways with their manager, Xavi. The club thanked him for his services and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Xavi’s sack had been brewing for weeks, with several reports revealing a falling out between the former midfielder and the club's leadership.
Following his explosive press conference in which he spoke honestly about the club's finances, President Laporta was said to be unhappy with him and was prepared to fire him.
The reports have now been proven true after the club's official statement came in this afternoon.
Xavi had initially announced his resignation; however, the club convinced him to stay beyond this season. The Blaugrana leadership has now had a remarkable U-turn.
As Pulse Sports reported, the club will now have to pay him a severance package of around €20 million. A fee they would not have had to pay had he resigned as intended.
Hansi Flick set to replace him
In the official statement, Barcelona said that they would be making announcement on the new first team structure in the next few days.
However, according to reports, Barcelona have already reached a verbal agreement with former Bayern Munich and German national team manager Hansi Flick to take over.
