Barcelona could lose Ousmane Dembele for as little as €50 million after a clause in his contract became active
Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele could leave the club in a cut-price deal this summer after a clause in his current contract reduced his release clause to just €50 million until the end of July.
Dembele release clause becomes active
The French forward had been close to leaving Barcelona last summer after being out of contract with the club, but made a U-turn to sign a two-year extension that will run out next summer.
In the meantime, an avenue for him to leave the Blaugrana this summer has also opened up, as a clause in his contract will allow him to leave for around €50 million, well below his valuation and far less than what Barcelona paid to sign him.
Dembele is currently negotiating a new deal with the Catalan giants that will keep him beyond next season, and he is thought to be keen on remaining at the club despite the clause in his contract.
Barcelona looking to tie Dembele down to longer contract
The French winger is an important part of Barcelona’s current project and is thought to be a favourite of head coach Xavi Hernandez.
Despite yet another injury-laden season, Dembele still managed to contribute eight goals and nine assists in 35 games in the 2022/23 season, a healthy return for the winger which points to the quality Barcelona are willing to bet on for the future.
The French winger has not raised a lot of interest this summer as most clubs also believe that he will sign a contract extension at his current side.
