Yamal's start to life with Spain has been spectacular with the youngster reaching another milestone in only his second game

Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal has continued his meteoric rise to stardom after reaching another milestone with the Spanish national team.

The 16-year-old winger made his Barcelona debut just last season, and only started his first game for the Blaugrana in the 2023/24 season, but has already become a favourite of Spanish national team manager Luis de la Fuente, who has now featured him in two straight games. 

Luis de la Fuente saw fit to select the youngster for the two Euro 2024 qualifiers against Georgia and Cyprus, and he has been rewarded with superb performances from the Barcelona man.

Yamal’s introduction to the Spain national team has been near perfect, as the forward has started his international career in record-breaking fashion. 

Yamal’s record-breaking Spain run

Yamal broke two records in his debut for Spain against Georgia, coming on to become La Roja’s youngest-ever player, while also scoring to become the country’s youngest scorer. 

The teenager was rewarded for his performance against Georgia with his first start for Spain in the second match of the international break against Cyprus. 

Thanks to his feature against Cyprus, Yamal became the youngest player to start a fixture for Spain in the country's recorded history, beating the record set by Barcelona teammate Gavi.

Although he was unable to score against Cyprus, Yamal was involved in one of Spain’s goals after Alvaro Morata turned in a shot from the youngster that cannoned off the post.
