Bayer Leverkusen appears resigned to losing head coach Xabi Alonso next summer, as reports indicate that the Spaniard is highly sought after by several elite clubs across Europe.

After leading Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga title and a DFB-Pokal triumph, Alonso has emerged as one of the most in-demand managers in football.

Alonso, who recently turned down the opportunity to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season.

However, Sky Germany suggests that his departure is expected in the upcoming summer.

This news comes as Manchester City expresses strong interest in the 42-year-old, especially with Pep Guardiola's future at the club remaining uncertain.

Guardiola’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and his long-term plans are still up in the air.

Additionally, Alonso's former club, Real Madrid, is reportedly considering him as a potential successor to Carlo Ancelotti, whose contract also runs until 2026.

Alonso enjoyed a stellar playing career at Madrid, winning the Champions League in 2014, and a return to the Bernabéu would certainly appeal to him.

As Leverkusen prepares for the inevitable loss of their successful manager, they are already scouting for potential replacements.

Candidates include Stuttgart's Sebastian Hoeness and Germany assistant coach Sandro Wagner, both of whom could bring fresh perspectives to the club.

Currently, Leverkusen sits fourth in the Bundesliga, just three points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and will be eager to maintain their strong form as they navigate the remainder of the season under Alonso's stewardship.
