Dortmund's Edin Terzic believes Bayern Munich deserved to win the Bundesliga title
Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic has gracefully congratulated Bayern Munich on beating his side to the Bundesliga title to claim an 11th consecutive title.
Dortmund two away Bundesliga title
Dortmund came within a goal of clinching their first Bundesliga title in 10 years, but a 2-2 draw against Mainz at Signal Iduna Park was only enough for a second-place finish in the league.
BVB’s awful start to the match resulted in the title eventually going to Bayern Munich after Dortmund were left with too big a task after going 2-0 down in the first half.
They rallied to level the tie at 2-2 in the second half, but Niklas Sule’s 96th-minute equaliser came too late for Dortmund to find a winner, leaving the Bavarians to clinch yet another league title at BVB’s expense.
Terzic bemoans key moments
After the final game of the season, a visibly distraught Terzic complimented Bayern Munich on their fine season and league title which he believed they deservedly won.
He said, “The first thing I want to say is congratulations to Bayern Munich. The team that finishes top after 34 matches deserves to be there.
He also praised his own players for their effort, while bemoaning key moments that went wrong for them.
“If you consider that the boys gave their all after going two down and battled to the end, you realise how close it was to all coming together,” Terzic said, before continuing, “If the penalty wasn’t missed, there wasn’t the close offside, and we had equalised earlier, it would have been really interesting. I find it really hard to take right now.”
Dortmund will need to move on from the loss and plan for the new season, potentially without star midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is reportedly set to sign with Real Madrid in the coming week.
