Thomas Muller has chastised his teammates at Bayern Munich for their lack of gratitude to their travelling supporters.

The Bundesliga champions lost 2-1 against third-tier side Saarbrucken in the German Cup as they crashed out of the competition.

Deep into second-half stoppage time, Marcel Gaus scored the game's winning goal for the home team.

Their performance capped an incredible comeback and set off loud celebrations among the supporters while the Bayern players watched in complete disbelief.

Muller not pleased with his teammates

Muller was among the few players, along with Joshua Kimmich and Mathys Tel, who approached the irate Bayern fans to talk with them at the end of regulation.

The 34-year-old was critical of his teammates after the game for not realising the fans' support.

Muller said as reported by Daily Mail, “Absolutely understandable from the fans. It's not necessarily about the game or the result.

“What is not possible at all is that only three or four players understand how to respect the support.

“They came here I don't know how many 100 kilometres during the week. The most important thing is to understand how to give something back. Of course, it doesn't work that way.”

Muller spoke about the team's performance, “This is a brutal blow for us. To be eliminated for the third time in the second round of the Cup is not what we strive for. We have to congratulate Saarbrucken for their fight. A bit of luck is also part of it.

“Then we are hit on the break in the 96th minute but we had wasted too many chances before that.”

Bayern Munich failed to take their chances and paid the price late in the game when their opponent scored the winning goal.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane finally ended his wait for a first official hat-trick in the Bundesliga after an inspirational display against SV Darmstadt.
