Vincent Kompany provided an injury update on one of their most important players.

Bad news for Bayern Munich as they are set to be without starting goalkeeper Manuel Neuer for the rest of the year due to injury.

The Bavarians currently lead the way in the Bundesliga, seven points ahead of champions Bayer Leverkusen, whose chances of making the ground and defending their title took a serious hit following Victor Boniface's injury.

Vincent Kompany is now facing a similar headache as his counterpart Alonso, who lost his starting striker, as Bayern's starting goalkeeper is now sidelined until next year.

Bayern Munich were knocked out of the DFB Pokal in the past week by champions Bayer Leverkusen after a Manuel Neuer red card handicapped the Bavarians.

The Germany international carelessly clattered into Jeremie Frimpong, causing him to receive his marching orders. Die Werkself capitalised on the numerical superiority and, thanks to a Nathan Tella header, knocked out the record winners of the competition on their march to title defence.

Neuer's ill-advised lunge seems to have now had more repercussions than the cup exit, as he was found to have broken his rib during the challenge, and according to Kompany, is expected to be out until the new year.

"He's got a broken rib, which means he probably won't play again this year,” the Bayern gaffer said, per France24. “What's important is that it heals now. Hopefully from the start of January we'll have Manu back, but for now it's too early."

With second-choice goalkeeper Sven Ulreich also out due to unspecified personal reasons, Kompany will have to rely on third-choice Daniel Peretz until Neuer’s return.
