Bayern Munich's Club President still believes the decision to hire Tuchel in place of Nagelsmann was the correct one
The President of Bayern Munich’s Supervisory Board Herbert Hainer affirmed that the decision to sack Julian Nagelsmann in the middle of the 2022/23 season to hire Thomas Tuchel was correct.
Bayern dhave been umped out of two cups under Tuchel
Tuchel was given the reins of the club on the 25th of March, during that month’s international break, despite Bayern Munich being in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Pokal, as well as being within touching distance of the top of the Bundesliga.
There was hope that Tuchel’s arrival could insert some urgency into the Bayern Munich team as the season reached a critical point, but the opposite has happened for the Bavarians as they find themselves out of the UCL, and DFB Pokal while still fighting for the Bundesliga title.
Bayern have only won two of the six matches that Tuchel has been in charge of, losing two, and drawing two more.
Bayern stand by the decision to sack Nagelsmann for Tuchel
Their recent failures have led many to question the decision to sack Nagelsmann who was not doing particularly poorly, but Bayern chief, Hainer, has defended the decision, saying he felt the club did not make a mistake hiring Tuchel.
Speaking after Bayern Munich were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Manchester City, Hainer said, "I'd still change Nagelsmann for Thomas Tuchel, definitely.”
Hainer explained that the decision to pick Tuchel was a long-term one and the board felt that Nagelsmann was not bringing forth the potential of the team.
"I feel the development of the team under Nagelsmann showed that the potential wasn't brought to the pitch,” he said.
After harbouring dreams of a possible treble less than a month ago, Bayern are now faced with the possibility of fishing the season without a trophy, given their recent form and Borussia Dortmund’s continued pursuit.
