The former S.C Villa forward scored the first of three goals of the game, nodding home after just six minutes as he also opened his account in his new colours, sending the capacity crowd into wild cheers.

Charles Bbaale announced his arrival on the Rwanda football scene in style as his Rayon Sport side defeated arch-rivals APR FC 3-0 in the Rwanda Super Cup on Saturday at the Pele Kigali stadium.

The former S.C Villa forward scored the first of three goals of the game, nodding home after just six minutes as he also opened his account in his new colours, sending the capacity crowd into wild cheers.

The hosts tried to get back into the game by levelling the score, but ‘Gikundiro’ were hard-lined, sealing the game late on with two late penalties, first from debutant Rashid Kalisa in the 90th minute and Ugandan international Joackim Ojera in the 93rd minute.

The 3-0 win guided Rayon Sport to their first silverware of the season, and It was also their second win against APR FC in as many games, having also beaten the army side in the Peace Cup final at the end of last season.

However, Rwanda’s most successful side missed out on the services of Uganda Cranes international Taddeo Lwanga, with the former Simba and Vipers combative midfielder sitting out of the fixture due to unspecified reasons.

Goalkeeper Simon Tamale was also a no-show for ‘Gikundiro’, but Joackim Ojera featured in the entire game.

The seven-time Rwanda League champions will now focus on the continental campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup and the domestic front, hoping to better their third-place finish last season and claim a first league title since 2018.
