Beach Soccer legend Azeez 'emotional' after watching ex-club Enyimba win NPFL title

Nigerian Beach Soccer legend Abu Azeez has reflected on his trophyless time at Enyimba after watching them lift the NPFL title.

Azeez was in the stands as Enyimba were crowned the Champions of the 2022/2023 NPFL season at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

Enyimba held off defending champions Rivers United following a 1-1 draw in the final game of the NPFL Super 6 Playoffs on Sunday.

Pulse Sports Nigeria was at the MJ Arena as the People’s Elephant lifted the giant title for the ninth time ever.

Azeez looks back at his Enyimba career

The People’s Elephant went into the final game of the Playoffs needing just one point against the champions United to seal the title.

Finidi George’s men started on the front foot and took the lead in the first half courtesy of a goal from left winger Ekene Awazie.

Rivers United bounced back in the second half to equalise through Nyima Nwagua and went in search of the winner in the Super 6 Playoffs.

But despite a barrage of attacks, Enyimba held on for the a share of the spoils which was enough to wrap up the title for the ninth time.

Azeez watched his former club celebrate their latest win before taking to his social media account to reflect on his time at Enyimba.

“I was emotional last night seeing my former team EnyimbaFC win the league knowing how much I was close to winning it with Warri Wolves in 2015, moved to Enyimba with all the big names and we still couldn’t win it,” Abu Azeez posted on his official Twitter account. 

Azeez played for Enyimba in the NPFL for a season after joining the club in the 2016 season from Wolves.
