Samuel Anakwe's goal becomes the fastest goal scored in the 2023 NPFL season, so far.
Game week five of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) saw yet another round of exciting drama with teams like Bendel Insurance and Plateau United picking important wins away from home.
The game week also saw Remo Stars edge Enyimba with was goes down as the fastest goal of the season, so far.
Here is a round-up of how Group A games panned out.
El Kanemi Warriors 0-1 Bendel Insurance
Group A leaders headed to the El Kanemi Stadium on Wednesday on the back of four consecutive victories but were faced with the challenge of playing on a ground the hosts had not lost on in a while.
However, that did not deter them as consistent early pressure saw Deputy Echeta hand them a 29th-minute lead. Most of the game saw the Maiduguri club with the help of their vociferous fans, scour for an equalizer, but it was not to be as the Benin Arsenals sealed the victory.
They become the first NPFL team to win their opening 5 games after Kaduna United and Heartland did such in 2005 and 2015, respectively.
Remo Stars 1-0 Enyimba
The Sky Blues Stars recovered from a disappointing defeat in their last league game in Benin City to secure a 1-0 win on Wednesday.
For all the chances created at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Remo Stars secured the necessary three points thanks to a goal scored by Samuel Anakwe after just 17 seconds.
It becomes the first recorded this season.
Nasarawa United 1-2 Plateau United
Plateau United picked up their second win of the season, and first at an away ground, as they dispatched Nasarawa United in Kaduna.
Goals for either side from Ibrahim Mustapha and King Osanga put the game on level terms at half-time. But Plateau United centre-back Onyebuchi Ifeanyi scored in yet another game, enough for his side to secure their first away win of the season.
