Benson Omala is yet to feature for Gor Mahia despite a return after cutting ties with Lebanese club Al Safa.

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala has escalated his dispute with Lebanese club Al Safa to FIFA in an effort to expedite his return to action for the Kenyan champions.

Omala, who parted ways with the club following a bitter fallout, is still entangled in contractual technicalities that have delayed his appearance for Gor Mahia.

The highly-rated forward, who finished last season as the FKF Premier League top scorer with 19 goals, played a pivotal role in securing Gor Mahia's record-extending 21st league title.

Seeking new challenges, Omala ventured abroad, only for his move to Al Safa to turn sour, leaving his career in limbo.

The Lebanese outfit allegedly owes him eight months of unpaid wages, yet has refused to release his paperwork, blocking his return to competitive football.

Despite rejoining Gor Mahia, Omala remains sidelined due to the risk of FIFA sanctions should he play without proper clearance.

Pulse Sports previously reported on the ongoing impasse, with Gor Mahia highlighting the legal and administrative hurdles preventing his participation.

Now, in a bid to break the deadlock, Omala has taken his case to FIFA, seeking intervention to resolve the matter.

Speaking to Nation Sport, Gor Mahia Secretary-General Sam Ochola confirmed the club’s efforts to support the player in his legal pursuit.

"They have not been paying him his salary, yet they insist on him serving his contract," Ochola stated.

"We have taken the issue to the federation, and now it is with FIFA. We are confident there will be a solution and that Al Safa will abandon their hard stance."

Omala’s absence is being keenly felt by Gor Mahia, who are in dire need of a prolific striker as they battle for the FKF Premier League title.

The team is currently locked in a tight three-way contest with Tusker and Kenya Police, and their recent goalless draw against AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby underscored their struggles in front of goal.

Coach Sinisa Mihic reiterated the importance of having Omala back in the squad, stressing that his availability could be crucial in Gor Mahia’s title charge.

As FIFA deliberates on the matter, Gor Mahia remain hopeful that a swift resolution will see their talisman back on the pitch sooner for the title run-in.
