Harambee Stars welcome foreign-based players for international friendlies against Qatar and South Sudan

Sweden-based Eric Ouma and South Africa-based  Brian Mandela have answered the national call, bolstering the Harambee Stars squad for a series of upcoming international friendly matches against Qatar and South Sudan.

The dynamic duo, alongside the promising talents of Amos Nondi and Daniel Anyembe, touched down on Kenyan soil on Monday night and swiftly dove into rigorous training sessions.

Joining them are a host of foreign-based talents led by Japan-based midfielder Teddy Akumu, England-based Clarke Oduor, and Norway-based Alfred Scrven.

The presence of skipper Michael Olunga, who arrived on Sunday night, further elevates the team's spirits.

The Harambee Stars camp is buzzing with anticipation as they prepare to face formidable opponents and coach Firat expressed his thoughts on the challenge.

"Qatar is undoubtedly a formidable side. Although their performance in the World Cup might not have matched their previous standards, they remain the reigning Asian Cup Champions,” coach Firat said.

“Additionally, their remarkable home record speaks volumes. Their strength as a team poses a substantial challenge for us, and it provides us with a valuable opportunity to test our abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.”

The team's departure for Qatar is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 1 a.m., ahead of the first friendly clash slated for Thursday, September 7, 2023, in Doha.

Following this showdown, the Stars will return home on Friday, September 8, 2023, gearing up for their second friendly encounter against South Sudan on September 12, 2023.

These friendly matches hold immense significance as they serve as crucial preparation for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
