Mathews kept 17 clean sheets last season emerging as the joint-best goalkeeper in the FKF Premier League.

Shamed Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are staring at losing their first-choice goalkeeper Gad Mathews to a more monied local opponent who is itching to buy out the custodian’s contract and prise him away from K’Ogalo.

Mathews established himself as a top goalkeeper in the league with incredible performances for Gor Mahia on their way to an unprecedented 20th league title last season.

The goalkeeper has posted cryptic messages alluding to his imminent departure and now Bandari FC have come out in the open with their desire to sign one the shortest but most agile goalkeeper in Kenya’s top-flight division.

“We are building a title-winning team and one of the ingredients has to be a good goalkeeper. That is why we earmarked Gad Mathews. With him we will get a winner’s mentality, experience, and the right age to build the team around,” a club official not authorized to speak to the media whispered to Twiga.

Bandari embarked on a rebuild that saw them confirm experienced tactician Twahir Muhiddin as head coach after firing most of the technical bench and board of management following another fruitless season in the top flight.

Gor Mahia are mulling letting Mathews go as their anticipated return to the CAF Champions League hit a dead-end last Tuesday when the continental body locked them out owing to contractual disputes with three former players.

“The club was not willing to release him because they had plans for CAF but since they are no longer heading there I think they might enter a deal. Our only chance would be to buy out the remainder of his contract to make the transfer easier,” the official added

Gor Mahia roped in Gad Mathews from Kisumu All Stars and the keeper has excelled at K’Ogalo. He is especially renowned for excellent penalty stops and the great organization of his defenders.
