The defender has been missing in action for the Gunners, who have dropped crucial points in the last three games.

Arsenal defender William Saliba is expected to miss the Premier League trip to the Etihad on Wednesday.

Manchester City will host the Gunners in what is seen as a potential title decider, and the London club looks to miss on their centre-back once again.

Mikel Arteta is expected to deliver another update on the Frenchman on Tuesday as fears that he could miss the rest of the season mount.

Saliba’s condition is always assessed on a daily basis, but a return ahead of the Etihad showdown looks too soon for him.

Since he got injured in Arsenal’s Europa League match against Sporting Lisbon in March, Saliba has missed five games.

The 22-year-old had started in every Premier League match for the log leaders this season before he suffered the back injury.

In his absence, Rob Holding has filled the position at centre-back and the London club has failed to keep a clean sheet in the process.

In the last three games, they have conceded seven goals and dropped points following draws against Liverpool, West Ham United, and Southampton. Previously, they registered convincing wins against Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

The dropped points in the three draws are viewed as a huge setback in their quest to end the wait for a Premier League title since 2004.

Ahead of the Wednesday game, the Gunners are on top of Manchester City with five points, but the Citizens have two games in hand.
