Tottenham Hotspur's pursuit of Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has been dealt a massive blow after the Belgian committed himself to the Clarets.

The Londoners were eyeing the former Manchester City skipper for a permanent job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season but will now have to look elsewhere.

After the sacking of Italian Antonio Conte and former Caretaker coach Cristian Stellini, they're now under the guardianship of old boy Ryan Mason.

Kompany has signed a five-year contract, and his stay at the Tuff Mor is likely to extend until 2028.

After a Championship winning year in his first season in charge of Burnley, the tactician has decided loyalty over a big-club move.

"Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start - so it also feels right to sign for the next five years," he was quoted by the club.

"Together with the fans, we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step."

Burnley have returned to the English Premier League at first asking, having been relegated to the Championship last season.

With a game to the end of the 2022/23 season, Kompany and his charges could make 101 points, as they have currently tallied 98, 10 more than their nearest rival, Sheffield United.
