Fifteen teams will battle for the three direct promotion places as the new FUFA Big League format enters its third season.

The 2023/24 BetPawa FUFA Big League will kick off on Thursday as Booma FC welcomes Jinja North United at the Masindi Stadium.

Fifteen teams will battle for the three direct promotion places as the new format enters its third season.

Unlike the previous seasons, this edition will be played mainly on Thursday and Sunday, with some games played across the weeks.

Booma finished last season in seventh place with 40 points, 17 behind NEC FC, who grabbed the last promotional slot.

The club wants to account for that deficit this season with the acquisition of coach Mark Twinamasiko, who has made the FUFA Big League his trade.

On the other side, Jinja North United, too, appointed Sadiq Ssempijja in their quest to become the fourth club from Jinja City in the topflight.

The Bugembe side finished 10th in their debut last season, avoiding relegation by nine points.

Both sides have signed a number of players, most of whom are experienced in the second-division terrains.

The bottom three teams will be relegated from the division at the end of the season.

Kiyinda Boys from Mityana, Kigezi Home Boyz, Young Elephants from Lira and Mbale Heroes are the four teams that have been promoted from the third tier.

Blacks Power and Onduparaka joined after their relegation from the Uganda Premier League.
