Two Algerian stars have been ruled out for the Africa Cup of Nations qualification against Uganda set for Sunday, June 18 at the Japoma Stadium in Cameroon.
Algerian midfielders Victor Lakehal and Hicham Boudaou will miss the crunch tie due to injury. Boudaou had been earlier released from the camp.
"The technical staff, in collaboration with the medical staff, has decided to release the midfielder Victor Lakehal who will not make the trip to Douala", indicated the Algeria Football Association in a press release published on its official website before their flight to Cameroon.
Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi could field a younger side as they have already secured qualification and face Tunisia at home in an international friendly only 48 hours later.
The 26-man squad to face the Uganda Cranes includes Islam Slimani, treble winner Riyad Mahrez, and Said Benrahma, the goal scorer of the winning goal in West Ham United's 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.
He also summoned USM Alger midfielder Oussama Chita to fill the gap in the centre.
Other stars include newly signed Roma midfielder Houssem Aouar who could make his debut after switching his allegiance from France to Algeria.
For Uganda Cranes, the match is a must-win tie if they are to keep their hopes of qualification alive. Uganda and Tanzania have four points while Niger sits rock bottom with two.
