The Super Eagles are not the only struggling national team as one of Brazil's greatest players has vowed not to watch the national team's matches anymore
Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho has publicly declared that he will no longer watch matches of the national team, labelling the current squad as one of the "worst teams" in the country's history.
Ronaldinho, who enjoyed a glittering career and won both the World Cup and Copa America with Brazil, expressed his frustration on social media following Brazil's 1-1 draw with the 2024 Copa America host the United States of America.
Ronaldinho slams average Brazil team
Ronaldinho's dissatisfaction stems from what he perceives as a lack of leadership and quality within the team. "This is a sad moment for those who love Brazilian football. It's getting hard to find the spirit to watch the games," he wrote on Instagram. He criticised the current crop of players, stating, "It has no respectable leaders, only average players for the majority."
In his Instagram post, Ronaldinho did not hold back his feelings about the national team's performance and spirit. "I've been following football since I was a kid, long before I thought about becoming a player, and I've never seen a situation as bad as this," he lamented. The former playmaker highlighted a "lack of love for the shirt, lack of grit and the most important of all: football."
Ronaldinho vows not to watch Copa America
He further emphasised his point by declaring his resignation from watching Brazil's matches. "I therefore declare my resignation. I will not watch any Copa América game, nor celebrate any victory," Ronaldinho concluded.
Despite Ronaldinho's boycott, Brazil's national team, led by coach Dorival Júnior, is preparing to kick off their Copa America campaign against Costa Rica on 25 June, hoping to win the tournament for the first time since they hosted it in 2019.
