Harambee Stars defender begins preparations amid contract speculations.

Kenya international Brian Mandela has resumed pre-season training with South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) powerhouse, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The news comes amidst rumors surrounding Mandela's contract status, with reports suggesting that he has yet to receive a new offer from the club.

The 28-year-old defender's contract expired on Friday, June 30, although the club has the option of a two-year extension option.

Mandela's presence was captured in a video shared by Sundowns, showcasing the players undergoing medical assessments as part of their preparations for the new season.

The caption accompanying the video read, "Back with a Bang! Hear from our technical team and our players as the team is back in action, getting their medicals done for the upcoming season."

The footage not only provided a glimpse into the training regime but also showcased the dedication of the players toward their fitness and readiness for the challenges that lie ahead.

Speculation regarding Mandela's future has been rife, as it has been reported that he is currently out of contract.

Recent rumors suggest that TP Mazembe, the DR Congo giants, have expressed interest in acquiring the services of the Kenyan defender for the upcoming season.

As the 2023/24 PSL season approaches, Sundowns, along with the other 15 clubs in the league, are going through their customary six-week preseason preparations.

The focus during this period is primarily on enhancing players' fitness levels and ensuring they reach peak performance for the start of the season.

Traditionally, the PSL commences in early August, with a full round of fixtures preceding the MTN8 tournament or vice versa.

Sundowns' training routine follows a well-established tradition: they will be expected to spend a week at their base in Pretoria before retreating to the serene and luxurious surroundings of the Royal Marang in Rustenburg, located in the North West province.

Mandela and his teammates will be expected to participate in a four-team, one-day competition set to take place at the Prince Mangosuthu Stadium in Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, on either July 22 or 29.
