Colossus central midfielder Cleophus Fiat has been an integral figure in Soltilo Bright Stars FC's season, helping them up to the Uganda Cup semi-finals.
The rock-solid player has repaid club head coach Asaph Mwebaze's trust, garnering up to 25 appearances with two goals.
His superb displays attracted Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic to a late call, and Fiat is keen on repaying the trust.
"I so am happy my abilities have been seen and recognized by the coach because this is the first time to be called on the national team," revealed a joyous Fiat to Pulse Sports Uganda.
"It's not everyday that a player gets to play at the senior team but I'm now here and I just want to show my abilities."
He is part of an over 40-man provisional squad that is gearing up for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with Algeria, slated for June 15 in Douala Cameroon.
To make the final 26-man team, Fiat will need to fend off opposition from the likes of Siraje Ssentamu, George Kasonko, Khalid Aucho, Saidi Mayanja among others.
"The chance the national team has given me is to prove and I'm really to work hard for this so I can hopefully get considered (in the final team)."
"I believe that I, with the team, are going to do the best so as to help the team achieve it's targets," he added.
Uganda's June opponent, Algeria with 12 points, has already qualified for the finals slated for Ivory Coast next year.
Tanzania and Uganda follow in second and third, respectively with four points each, while Niger occupies rock-bottom with three.
